I found your blog through the mothering message board. I've been seriously considering homeschooling my two girls (one's 4 and the other is almost 3) so I've been doing alot of research. While looking at your blog, I recognized two of the places you take your children too - TurtleBack Zoo and the Trailside Center. We must be "neighbors" - we're there all the time. We live in Somerset County. I'd love to hear more about homeschooling in terms of what it's like in NJ, is it easy to find fellow home-schoolers to socialize with, etc.
Nj has no laws governing homeschooling at all.
It is VERY VERY easy to find people to hang out with for several reasons...
Right now I belong to 4 yahoo NJ homeschool groups and there are more out there. Many places offer homeschool days where they either give you the group discount even though your not part of a group arriving in a bus or they offer different hours.
Even bowling alleys are getting in on the act with homeschool leagues during the day (mine are too little for that kind of thing)
Every Yahoo group has a post at least weekly about park meet ups, come play at my house, want to go to the zoo...something.
